Widespread 40 to 50-mile-per-hour wind gusts were reported across the region as a powerful storm accompanying a frontal system swept through the Northeast. The highest reported gust -- at 72 miles per hour -- happened on Long Island just before 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 29 on top of a building in Stony Brook at 159 feet, according to the National Weather Service. Hudson Valley Man Accused Of Stealing 1,000 Gallons Of Cooking Oil Two New York men are facing charges after authorities said they stole more than 1,000 gallons of cooking oil in Connecticut and then led police on a pursuit. The owner of Pizza Palace Restaurant in Middlesex County called police at about 9:40 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, to report that he had interrupted the theft of cooking oil at his restaurant, according to the Old Saybrook Police Department. Three Killed In Connecticut Crash  Three people were killed in a morning crash in Connecticut. It happened around 6:30 a.m. in New Haven County in Branford on Thursday, April 28 on Hosley Avenue.
