Newburgh Man Sentenced To Prison In Violent Slashing Attack A Hudson Valley 53-year-old has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to assault in the violent slashing attack of a man who was a life-long acquaintance. Orange County resident Melfred Williams, of Newburgh, was sentenced to 12 years in prison, and five years post-release supervision in connection with his guilty plea in the May 2022 slashing of a man on Lander Street in the City of Newburgh, said Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler.  The victim was a lifelong acquaintance of Williams. The incident happened in Dutchess County on Friday, Feb. 10 at approximately 2:20 p.m. in the parking lot of the Extra Mart located at 2 West Market St. in the village of Red Hook. Police Warn Of Car Thefts, Break-Ins In Region Police are warning car owners after numerous vehicles were stolen or broken into in the region. In Westchester County, 11 vehicles have been stolen in Rye since March 2022, Rye Police said in a statement Tuesday, Aug. 2.
