Area Town Near Massive 150-Acre Wildfire Declares State Of Emergency A Hudson Valley town near the massive 150-acre wildfire consuming a section of a state park has issued a state of emergency and instituted a burn ban. The Ulster County town of Shawangunk issued the order and the band on Sunday, Aug. 28 after the fire was sparked by a lightning strike in the Minnewaska State Park in Ellenville.  The area's drought conditions and the fire led to the burn ban which runs through Wednesday, Sept. 28, according to town officials. Car Ignites After Illegal Dutchess County Brush Fire After an illegally set brush fire spread to a car, sending it into flames, residents across the area are being warned not to burn any brush until a ban is lifted in May. The fire broke out around 12:40 p.m. Monday in the area of Sylvan Lake Road in the town of Beekman, according to Lt. Shawn Castano of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office.  An Investigation into the fire revealed that a local resident was burning brush in violation of the New York State DEC Burn Ban.
