New Bear Sightings Reported In Hudson Valley Some Northern Westchester residents had an unexpected visitor as one or more black bears made the rounds through their neighborhoods. The New Castle Police Department issued alerts for two separate bear sightings that happened in a 24-hour span. On Friday morning, Oct. 22, the department advised that a black bear was seen making the rounds in the area of Twin Ridges Road and Lake way in the town of New Castle. Black Bears Stuck In Shed Rescued By Troopers, Environmental Officers Two black bears stuck in a shed in the area were saved with help from a few law enforcement officers. The bears were located in Sullivan County on Wednesday, April 15, in Rock Hill, said officials with the state Department of Environmental Conservation. DEC Officers Glen Parker and Ricky Wood responded and found two yearling black bears stuck inside a shed.  The bears had knocked over a number of items inside the shed and were trapped inside.  With assistance from two New York State troopers, the officers were able to open the shed doors just wide enough for the bears to escape …

Deaths Of Two Female Black Bears Found In Warwick Under Investigation The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has launched an investigation into the deaths of two female black bears whose bodies were found in the Fuller Mountain Preservice in Warwick last week. Members of the NYSDEC responded to the Conservation on Wednesday, Jan. 2, when the two bears were found in the park. Enjoying A Morning Stroll: Black Bear Makes Rounds In Area It seems black bears are everywhere these days, including this one enjoying a morning stroll in Poughkeepsie. Daily Voice reader Lauren Jolly snapped this shot of the bear cruising through his neighbor's yard on Casper Creek Road early Thursday morning.  He, or she, didn't seem interested in visiting and just moved along. Of course, never approach a black bear and don't keep food or birdseed in your yard to attract them.
