The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert this week to Orange County residents regarding the residency of 38-year-old Alexander Surita, who has moved to a residence on Spring Street in Newburgh.
The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Surita as a level 2 threat, which means he is at "moderate risk of a repeat offense."
According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Surita had sexual intercourse with his teenage victim in Middletown in January 2002. He was convicted of third-degree rape of a minor under the age of 17 the following month and sentenced to six months in jail followed by 10 years probation. He is now under the jurisdiction of the Newburgh City Police Department.
