Ex-Deputy Mayor In Hudson Valley Headed For Jail On Gun Charges
A former Hudson Valley deputy mayor has pleaded guilty to six felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
Ramapo resident Brian Downey, age 49, of Airmont, plead guilty on Tuesday, Feb. 28 in connection with the discovery of a cache of weapons during a search of his Airmont home on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021, said Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Walsh.
He faces two years in the Rockland County Jail for his convictions, Walsh said.

Man With Skeleton Mask, Fake Gun Assaults Victim In Westchester, Police Say
A man with active arrest warrants out of multiple states faces assault charges after allegedly attacking an elderly man in Westchester County, police said.
An arrest warrant for New Rochelle resident Duane Floyd, age 37, was executed on Wednesday, Feb. 15 around 11 p.m. for the violent assault, which happened on Tuesday, Feb. 7, according to New Rochelle Police.
During his arrest, police found both a black skeleton mask and an imitation Glock handgun in Floyd's possession.

Mount Vernon Man Beaten To Death After Alleged Attempted Break-In
A Westchester resident was beaten to death with a metal pipe after allegedly attempting to break into a home.
Harold Bates, 29, of Mount Vernon, was killed around 11:53 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19, after being hit with a metal pipe, said the New York City Police.
Police found Bates after responding to a call of a burglary in progress on East 223 Street in the 47 Precinct, said the NYPD.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found Bates, unconscious and unresponsive, with trauma to the head. He was rushed to Montefiore Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

ID Released Of Westchester Man, 32, Who Committed Suicide At County Jail
An inmate suicide at the Westchester County Jail is under investigation by correction officials.
Gregory Fernandez, 32, of Yonkers, attempted suicide on Aug. 28 and died on Sept. 1, from his injuries, said Justin Pruyne, a spokesman for the Department of Correction.
Emergency medical care was provided at the jail, and Fernandez was transported to Westchester Medical Center for further treatment, Pruyne said.
Fernandez had been in custody for two days for felony robbery and a weapons possession charge, he added.
