The woman driving on Clove Road just off of Route 208 in South Blooming Grove told officials that she smelled smoke shortly after making the turn onto the roadway shortly after 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22. Her Toyota Camry then proceeded to stall out and flames burst through the hood of the car. The woman was able to escape the blaze unscathed, and firefighters were called to the scene. The fire started just before noon in Mount Vernon on Monday, Dec. 24 as smoke and flames could be seen billowing through the roof of a Bruce Avenue home, which has reportedly been abandoned for years. The fire was still raging after more than an hour as crews attempted to knock down the flames.  The cause of the fire is under investigation. 40 Firefighters Battle Blaze At Six-Story Apartment Building In Westchester A fire broke out in a unit of a six-story apartment complex in Westchester late Wednesday morning. The fire alarm came in at 11:45 a.m. at 30 Locust Hill Ave. in Yonkers, said Yonkers Deputy Fire Chief of Personnel Daniel Flynn. Responding firefighters were able to contain the one-alarm fire to the one apartment and the fire was declared under control by 12:08 p.m., Flynn said. Approximately 40 firefighters and officers responded to the scene. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, Flynn added. No injuries were reported.
