Parent University Workshops Help Mount Vernon Mom, Dads Cope

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- Mount Vernon moms, dads and kids can learn yoga and meditation techniques on Saturday, April 16, at a workshop offered by Parent University.

The program runs from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. at the Grimes Elementary School, 58 S. 10th Ave., Mount Vernon.

Parents will be provided with a free continental-style breakfast.

A healthy cooking demonstration will be held following the yoga/meditation class.

Parent University, sponsored by Wellcore Consulting, teaches parents ways to help their children with math, reading, and other subjects. It also gives them tips for improving their families’ health and well-being.

On Saturday, May 7, the organization will host a Family Fun Day Carnival at Grimes.

The event is set for 12 noon - 3 p.m. The rain date is Saturday, May 14.

It features carnival games, an inflatable slide, and giveaways including free bike helmets.

There will be cooking demos and a disc jockey.

Recently, Parent University held a Community Resource Fair.

Organizations that attended were: Andrus, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Boy Scouts, Boys and Girls Club, the Girl Scouts, The Guidance Center of Westchester, Mount Vernon Department of Recreation, Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center, and the Mount Vernon Public Library, which gave away free books.
