Mount Vernon Vows To Improve English Proficiency Effort

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Following a parent’s complaint that two Spanish-speaking students did not get the help they needed to learn English for about a year, the Mount Vernon school district has decided to improve its program for teaching the English language, lohud reports.

Among other provisions in agreement with the office of Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, the district is required to create a tracking database for students screened for English proficiency and send reports to the state for three years, according to the report.
