Mount Vernon Holding Black History Competition

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Mount Vernon students will get to show their knowledge of African-American contributions to the United States, past and present, at a Black History Month Challenge on Tuesday.

The sixth annual competition will feature both middle and high school students. It is sponsored by the Mount Vernon Community That Cares through the Mount Vernon Youth Bureau and is funded by a grant from Drug Free Communities, which encourages young people to abstain from alcohol and drug use.

The free event will be held at the Mount Vernon Armory, 144 N. 5th Ave., from 4 to 6 p.m.
