On Monday, the U.S. Conference of Mayors named Thomas as the winner of this year’s “Small Business Advocate Award,” which is issued each year to a mayor that “shows significant effort and support for small businesses in their city.”
According to the Conference of Mayors, the award is given by Partner America, a public-private partnership that was created to assist mayors in providing necessary resources and information to help small businesses thrive. Thomas was chosen out of more than 1,400 mayors that preside over cities with more than 30,000 residents.
“Our small businesses are the backbone of our economy,” he said. “They work hard, give back to the community and continue to advocate for our small businesses, including a ‘ground floor’ tax break for retail businesses and developing a local film office that provides benefits to area businesses.
“Through new incentives, we will create jobs, attract start-ups and help existing businesses flourish in this great city.”
