The New Rochelle mayor was joined on the steps of Mount Vernon City Hall by Mayor Ernest Davis, Westchester County Democratic Party Chairman Reggie Lafayette City Council President Yuhanna Edwards and other local officials who each voiced their support for Bramson.
“I’ve been watching him for many years, and I’m proud to say he is who I will be endorsing for county executive,” Edwards said. “There’s a tendency to think of the problems in northern Westchester. [Bramson] is from here, he knows our problems, and he is going to focus on us.”
City Council member Roberta Apuzzo said that Bramson will look out for even the least entitled residents he represents.
“I believe he will do an executive job as county executive. I believe this because I’ve been watching what he does for the least of us, those who are most in need,” he said. “Noam Bramson is going to help out not just Mount Vernon, but all of us in a tremendous way.”
During a brief speech to a handful of constituents and contemporaries outside of City Hall, Bramson thanked the Mount Vernon politicians for their help and support, and said that the city needs a true partner in its county government.
“The issues that we are discussing are much larger than a single city. Every place matters,” he said. “It’s not about politicians’ names, it’s about the people we serve. The test of our actions is how they affect the real people and communities under us. That’s how we should measure our work.”
Davis added that he understands the difficulties his peer faces in office, and that he has been impressed with the work Bramson has done for both New Rochelle and the county.
“To be county executive, you need to be able to examine systems and see what works and doesn’t work,” he said. “He understands that you cannot simply lock up our problems. Unemployment produces crime. We need an avenue for young folk and respect is an investment we should have for all citizens.”
