MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- A suspect has been arrested and the victim identified in an overnight shooting at a Mount Vernon nightclub that left the owner dead and five other men injured.
The suspect, a Bronx resident, has been charged with murder following the 4:26 a.m. shooting at the Mansion on 4 North 3rd Ave.
Shots were fired after the club's owner, O'Neil Bandoo, kicked out a group of partygoers, according to reports. The suspect reportedly then returned and opened fire in the lobby, the report said. Security guards helped police officers, who were on patrol nearby, tackle the suspect as he tried to flee.
The five others involved in the shooting remain hospitalized with four of those described as having non-life threatening injuries.
Bandoo leaves behind a wife and six children.
“It's a dark day in the city and we are all grieving," Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas said.
"Mr. Bandoo was a good man who was dedicated to uplifting and serving the people of Mount Vernon. This double loss hurts and will hang heavy in our hearts this holiday season.”
The Mansion is known for hosting wedding receptions, concerts, sweet 16's and baby showers.
