MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. The owner of a Mount Vernon accounting service has been arraigned in City Court on charges of filing false claims for unemployment insurance and state tax refunds in excess of $121,750, the Westchester County District Attorney's Office announced.
In all, Chiara-Monai Hudson, 24, of the Bronx, faces seven felony counts, including two of grand larceny in the third degree, one of tax fraud in the fourth degree, one of attempted grand larceny in the third degree, one of grand larceny in the fourth degree and two of offering a false instrument for filing.
Hudson, the owner of Arlannas Accounting Services in Mount Vernon, a tax preparation firm, is due back in court Oct. 17.
The charges involve fraudulent claims filed with the the New York State Department of Labor and the New York State Department of Taxation over a 26-month period from Jan. 20, 2010, to March 22, 2012, Lucian Chalfin, spokesman for the Westchester County District Attorney's Office, said in a press release.
