A 33-year-old man is facing up to 15 years in prison after being acquitted of murder, but found guilty of manslaughter involving the strangling death of his girlfriend in Westchester.

Jason Myers, 33, of Mount Vernon was found guilty this week of second-degree manslaughter and concealment of a human corpse after he strangled his girlfriend, 27-year-old Ashley McDuffie last year and then dumped her body in the Bronx.

According to the Westchester County District Attorney's Office, on Tuesday, Aug. 23 last year, detectives in the Mount Vernon Police Department were contacted by the victim’s family to alert them that she had gone missing under suspicious circumstances.

Three days later, Myers turned himself in at Mount Vernon Police Headquarters, where he confessed to killing his victim and dumping her body in the vicinity of 233rd Street and Monticello Avenue near Seton Falls Park in the Bronx.

The body would be recovered by the New York Police Department, wrapped in plastic bags and a comforter taken from the victim’s residence. It was dumped over a guardrail and down a hill.

Police said that the incident followed an argument between Myers and McDuffie that turned physical. Myers told police he attempted to restrain his girlfriend by putting her in chokehold, but didn't realize how tightly he was gripping her.

An autopsy conducted by the New York City Medical Examiner would eventually conclude that the victim’s cause of death was asphyxia due to a compression of the neck.

Myers is due back in court next month for sentencing, where he will face up to 15 years in prison.
