Mount Vernon Blaze Damages Furniture Finishing Shop

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. — Fire ripped through a two-story building at 150 S. Terrace St. in Mount Vernon early Friday evening, doing heavy damage and causing traffic disruptions in the area.

Firefighters were on the scene within minutes of receiving the call shortly after 5:30 p.m., and it took about 25 minutes to knock down the flames using a two-line attack, Mount Vernon Deputy Fire Chief Tom Duffy said. There were no injuries.

The building, which housed D&D Furniture Finishers Inc., was damaged extensively, but Duffy said he had no financial estimate. The fire was unintentional and caused by "a finishing product in the building," he said.

Four trucks remained on the scene at 7:30 p.m., and South Terrace Street remained blocked at South Street.
