Smoke could be seen billowing from a home on Claremont Avenue for several blocks, where the Mount Vernon Fire Department and mutual aid partners responded shortly before 6 p.m.
The fire broke out at approximately 5:45 p.m. before a second alarm was quickly raised as flames shot through the third floor, prompting assistance from nearby departments.
As of 7 p.m., the fire was not yet completely under control. It is unknown if there were any injuries. Keep following Daily Voice for more information as it becomes available.
