Last month, Mount Vernon firefighter Scott Smith, 30, and his friend, Andrew Nappi, 31, from Eastchester, got into a heated exchange at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore with 55-year-old Joseph Bauer that turned physical. Nappi allegedly punched Bauer and Smith shoved him to the ground, where the former Marine hit his head and was knocked unconscious
Both Nappi and Smith were arrested and charged with first and second-degree assault. According to a Baltimore Sun report, on Thursday, the two were indicted on additional charges of conspiracy to commit assault and reckless endangerment.
Bauer suffered a brain injury in the incident and is still under the care of the University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopedic Institute as he continues to recover.
In a statement following the assault, the Baltimore Ravens offered their support for the Bauer family.
“Our sympathies and prayers go out to Bauer, his wife Sharon and the rest of his family,” the team added. “We are deeply concerned about this assault and are learning as much as we can about it. Safety for our fans is a top priority. Confrontational and inflammatory behavior is never tolerated and is unacceptable at Ravens home games.”
