Josephine Starace, 95, Mount Vernon Secretary

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Josephine Yannantuono Starace, a lifelong Mount Vernon resident, died Jan. 8. She was 95.

Starace was born July 7, 1917, to Pasquale and Theresa Carretta Yannantuono. She attended local schools and graduated from Edison High School. She married Joseph V. Starace on May 4, 1941. He predeceased her on Aug. 27, 1973.

She worked as a secretary at the family-owned Yannantuono Funeral Home for more than 28 years until her retirement in 1981. She was a parishioner of Sts. Peter and Paul Church and a member of the Senior Leisure Club and the AARP Club.

Starace is survived by four children, Thomas Starace, Elisa (Peter) Bartolini, Robert Starace and Joseph (Cheryl) Starace Jr; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by four brothers, Nicholas, Fred, John and Frank; two sisters, Connie and Marion; and a daughter-in-law, Rosemarie.

Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Yannantuono Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:45 a.m. Friday at Sts. Peter and Paul Church. Entombment will follow at Ferncliff Mausoleum.
