Buddy, an 8-year-old, black and gray dog with white on his chest, went missing from his home in Mount Vernon during the June 23 fireworks display, the city's first in 60 years, said Annette Keegan, the dog's owner.
"My roommate left the door open and he just panicked," she said. "He's not an outside dog and the non-closure is just too much. He was my shadow -- so gentle and sweet."
Keegan said she's searched local streets and nearby wooded areas for the dog and contacted animal shelters and police departments in neighboring cities like Yonkers and New Rochelle, but has come up with no serious leads.
The animal could also have run off toward Pelham, Pelham Manor or Eastchester, she said.
Buddy was last seen near Hutchinson Boulevard in Mount Vernon about 9 p.m. Thursday, June 23. Anyone who may find him is urged to call 917-400-4482.
