Mount Vernon's Stacy-Ann Elvy Gains Recognition As Legal Rising Star

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- New York Law School professors Stacy-Ann Elvy of Mount Vernon and Ari Ezra Waldman are among New York Law Journal’s 2016 Rising Stars, 42 lawyers ages 40 or younger who have “established a record of accomplishments and demonstrated that they are top contributors to the practice of law and their communities," said a release.

They were selected from a field of nearly 300 nominees from every sector of the bar and were two of only three professors named to the list from among the state’s 15 law schools. according to the announcement. 

“Professors Stacy-Ann Elvy and Ari Ezra Waldman are two of New York Law School’s most innovative scholars, educators, and legal professionals,” said Anthony W. Crowell, dean and president. 

Elvy, a Jamaican immigrant, is the associate director of the Center for Business and Financial law at NYLS, where she is also an associate professor and an affiliate of the Center for International Law. 

She is an expert on commercial law, the Internet of things and human rights issues in the Caribbean and Africa. 

Through the International Refugee Rights Initiative, Elvy offers her services as a country-of-origin expert on Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica. 

She also has served as an expert to the ABA-United Nations Development Program International Legal Resource Center. 

Elvy holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.A. from Cornell University and she is a graduate of Mount Vernon High School.
