Mount Vernon...Did You Know?

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. — Did you know that when Mount Vernon was founded as a village in the 1850s, it consisted of five farms covering more than 369,000 acres?

The land at that time stretched from what is now Union Avenue on the east to 15th Avenue on the west. The northern border stretched from Valentine Street to Sandford Boulevard and a portion of what is now Kingsbridge in the Bronx on the south.
