The production company is seeking films, shorts, narratives and documentaries from aspiring artists of all ages that will be showcased at the inaugural film festival, which will be held from Sept. 24 through Sept. 28 at the Doles Center.
The Mount Vernon Film Festival is an extension of the People’s Film Festival in Harlem, which was started to promote awareness in independent music, media and art from inner-city artists.
The four-day festival is “designed to highlight Mount Vernon’s rich historic and diverse culture, while celebrating the giants like Michael O’Keefe, Phylicia Rashad and Denzel Washington that were born of this great city,” producer Osiris Imhotep said when announcing the event. “The goal is to link the past and the present, introducing and reintroducing films from emerging, independent and established filmmakers.”
In addition to the films that are submitted to the festival, there will also be a series of workshops and panels for filmmakers, producers and artists. There will also be a specific category for young adults that call, or have called, Mount Vernon home. There will also be opportunities
Films, shorts, narratives, and documentaries are being sought in all categories. Regular film submission deadline is July 17, 2014, while the late film submission deadline is August 10, 2014. Custom-designed awards will be presented to the winner in each category at an awards ceremony on the final night of the festival.
