Each year, several blocks on West Third Street are cordoned off for the all-day event, which features free food, vendors and three stages for dozens of local and county performers.

Last year, more than 40,000 peopled flooded the streets of Mount Vernon at Arts on Third. Mayor Ernest Davis founded the festival in 1999, though former Mayor Clinton Young briefly discontinued it after he ousted Davis from office five years ago.

The event will be headlined by Doug E. Fresh, a Mount Vernon hip-hop legend. Other music acts include Regina Bell, Mr. Vegas and the Legendary Delfonics.

In addition to the music, there will be a section devoted to children, including horseback riding, an inflatable slide and moon bounce. There will also be a “sports lane” and “artist’s row” for residents to show off their talents.

Arts on Third will kick off at 12:45 p.m. with a prayer. Entertainment will begin at 1 p.m. and will continue through at least 7 p.m. There is no admission charge.
