The crash happened in Putnam County just after 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28 near the Chuang Yen Monastery at 2020 Route 301 in Carmel, according to the Kent Volunteer Fire Department.

Initial reports described a single vehicle striking a utility pole and rolling over with a possible trapped driver inside, but upon arrival, responders discovered that three vehicles were involved. One vehicle was found rolled over in the roadway, another had struck a tree off the road, and a third had front-end damage on the roadway. Fortunately, no one was trapped, firefighters said.

Because of the number of injuries, additional crews were called in, including a second ambulance from Carmel Ambulance and an additional paramedic. Both patients were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, authorities said.

Route 301 was closed between the Taconic State Parkway and Old Forge Drive for the duration of the response, which lasted just under an hour and a half.

Kent Fire Department personnel remained on the scene to assist with the aftermath of the crash before clearing the area and reopening the roadway.

Firefighters did not provide updates on the conditions of those injured.
