PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. The snowstorm that will strike the Northeast Saturday morning is being preceded by dire forecasts. Some say that, in the hardest hit areas, trees may fall, roads may get closed and people may lose power.
For Pleasantville, the National Weather Service estimates north winds between 25 and 28 mph Saturday night, with gusts as high as 41 mph, and a possible snow accumulation of four to eight inches.
The villages residents, however, dont seem so concerned. Whats a brief snowstorm, asked Patrick Watts, when you have just been through a hurricane?
I am not really worried about it, said Watts, a freshman at Pleasantville High School.
His schoolmates, Matt Ganz and Shane Argon, said they werent worried either.
I am just going to put on a jacket, said Ganz.
And just hibernate all day, added Argon.
Steve Manzi also showed good mood toward the storm, saying that it's part of the "joy" of living in the Northeast.
Testing his snow blower was the only precaution he took, Manzi said.
We have our shovels, he said. "We are ready to hunker down."
Bosco Wong, manager of the Key Food Marketplace on Pleasantville Road, said that he observed only a slightly higher demand for water and milk.
There was a little more activity, but no panic this time, he said, this time meaning a comparison with Tropical Storm Irene.
On the supermarkets parking lot, Bonnie Goodman, who was getting ready to drive back to her home at Sleepy Hollow, said that she too was ignoring the storm.
I like snow. Snow doesnt freak me out, she said.
A Pleasantville police officer said the police aren't doing anything special regarding the snowstorm.
