Motorists planning on traveling over the Throgs Neck Bridge this weekend may want to plan on taking an alternate route.

The MTA announced that there will be closures on the Bronx-bound lanes this weekend at the Throgs Neck Bridge, beginning Friday, Sept. 28 and spanning through Monday, Oct. 1 in time for the morning commute.

MTA officials said that at least one lane will remain open to Bronx-bound traffic during the milling and paving project. Queens-bound lanes will be unaffected by the work.

One Bronx-bound lane will be closed around the clock, from 10 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday morning. A second Bronx-bound lane will be closed from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Sunday and Monday.

According to the MTA, the paving work entails replacing a total of 75,000-square-feet of binder and asphalt overlay over a series of weekends, and is heavily dependent on suitable weather. The contractor cannot perform the work in rainy weather or in extreme humidity.

Motorists should expect delays and plan accordingly. The Bronx-Whitestone and the Robert F. Kennedy bridges can be used as alternate routes.
