This Top Westchester Official Named Recipient Of Prestigious Award A top-ranking Westchester County official has received a prestigious award for her leadership abilities.  Westchester County Health Commissioner Sherlita Amler has been named the 2024 recipient of New York Medical College's William Cullen Bryant Award, county officials announced on Thursday, Oct. 3.  The award, named after the college's founder, recognizes those who show seminal leadership in health care, science, education, business, or the arts and was also bestowed to Amler's husband, Robert Amler, the college's Vice President of Government Affairs.  The awards were …

Fire At New York Medical College Housing In Valhalla Displaces Students A college housing apartment in Northern Westchester was heavily damaged after a fire tore through it, adding smoke to already hazy skies caused by Canadian wildfires.  The fire happened on Wednesday, June 7, when the Valhalla and Hawthorne Fire Departments responded to a fire at an apartment at New York Medical College on Old Farm Road.  Once arriving, crews found that smoke was pouring out of the second floor of the building, and began work to extinguish the blaze.  After making their way inside the apartment, which was filled with heavy flames, firefighters were able to ab…

HS Student Wins $20K In Northern Westchester: 'Will Change World One Day' A high school student from Northern Westchester has received a $20,000 scholarship after being named a 2023 Coca-Cola Scholar.  Matthew Krasnow, a student at Fox Lane High School in Bedford, is one of only 150 students across the entire country to receive the scholarship and was picked out of more than 91,000 applicants, according to the Bedford Central School District.  Krasnow was picked based on criteria such as academic excellence, leadership skills, and services in both school and community activities, school officials said. Professor From Northern Westchester Accused Of Inappropriately Touching Child A 47-year-old college professor who lives in Northern Westchester has been accused of inappropriately touching a child. Abul Hasanat Alamgir of Chappaqua was arrested last week after he allegedly touched a child in Texas. He's been charged with indecency with a child by contact, a felony, the Bexar County District Attorney's Office said. He was released on $75,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court in January.
