Strong Winds, Dry Conditions Raise Fire Risk Through Weekend In Northeast: 5-Day Forecast Lingering dry conditions, couple with strong winds, will lead to an increased risk of fire spread through the weekend. Wind speeds on Friday, Nov. 15 will be 10 to 15 miles per hour with gusts up to 20 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Low humidity values of 20 to 25 percent will enhance the risk of fires. Ninety-six percent of the Northeast is now experiencing abnormally dry to drought conditions, according to the United States Drought Monitor. Florence Will Deliver Parting Shot Here Before Drifting Out To Sea Florence, a slow-moving hurricane turned tropical depression that has brought catastrophic flooding to North Carolina, is now heading north. But before its remnants finally drift out to sea on Thursday, it will deliver a parting shot to the Northeast, including this region.
