A man who allegedly terrorized a gas station during several armed robberies over the span of more than four months is scheduled to be sentenced this week after being found guilty by a jury following a trial in Westchester County Court. Bronx resident Gregory Harris, 41, was found guilty last month of multiple counts of robbery related to four incidents at the same Central Park Avenue in Yonkers in 2016. Tournament Set To Aid Former Westchester Pro Baseball Prospect's Foundation
A family in Westchester is taking to the softball field to potentially take some guns off the street. There will be a softball tournament and family day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 21 in Cook Field in Yonkers to benefit the Michael Nolan Scholarship fund, named after the former Oakland Athletic’s prospect, and Yonkers native, who was fatally shot in a drive-by in 2015. Man Sentenced For BMW Crash That Killed Westchester Teen, Hurt Boyfriend
The driver of a BMW that crashed on Central Avenue last year and killed 19-year-old Nina Cordero in Yonkers and injured her boyfriend has been sentenced to a term of between three and nine years in state prison. Yonkers resident Renzo Yance, 22, who pleaded guilty to a felony count of manslaughter earlier this year, was sentenced on Tuesday, where he faced a maximum term of up to 15 years in state prison for his role in the Aug. 26 fatal crash last year. New York State Police troopers teamed up with officers from the Yonkers Police Department over the weekend to conduct special enforcement details on area parkways and a major roadway. The law enforcement agencies conducted traffic enforcement details on Central Park Avenue, Sprain Brook Parkway and Cross County Parkway on Saturday “in an effort to combat speeding, aggressive or reckless driving and to enhance the quality of life for residents and other motorists." City officials in Yonkers are set to dedicate the Stockbridge Road in honor of Michael Nolan, a former city resident and Oakland Athletics baseball prospect who was shot and killed in the city in September 2015. Alert Issued For Grassy Sprain Brook Sewage Discharge
Hundreds of gallons of untreated waste was discharged near the Grassy Sprain Brook Reservoir on Thursday afternoon when a private sewer backed up. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation issued an alert shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, stating that there was a discharge emanating from a manhole in a nearby stream bed at 1500 Central Park Avenue in Yonkers. The Yonkers City Council is asking Gov. Andrew Cuomo to eliminate the $1.25 tolls for cars on Interstate 87. The driver of a BMW that crashed in Yonkers last year, killing his teenage passenger, has pleaded not guilty to new charges related to the fatal crash. Renzo Yance, 21, appeared at the Westchester County Courthouse in White Plains on Tuesday after recently being indicted on charges that include felony counts of second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
