Dutchess County resident Andrew Fischer, Sr., a retired Eastchester Police sergeant, died on Tuesday, April 9 at the age of 84, according to his obituary.
Fischer, an Air Force veteran who served during the Vietnam War era, joined the department in 1964 and served until his retirement in 1987 after 23 years, according to Eastchester Police.
Born in Yonkers in 1939, Fischer was also an avid outdoorsman in addition to his career in law enforcement and loved spending time hunting and collecting firearms. He also loved traveling and visited 48 out of 50 states during his many family vacations, his obituary said.
In a social media post shared in Fischer's honor, the Eastchester Police Department mourned his loss.
"We thank Sgt. Fischer for his service to our town and our country, and we send our most sincere condolences to his family and friends.," the department wrote.
Fischer is survived by his wife, Judith; his children, Andrew, Eric, and Patricia; and several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and other family members.
Calling hours for Fischer will be held on Friday, April 12 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at McHoul's Funeral Home in Hopewell Junction at 895 Route 82.
A funeral service will then be held on Saturday, April 13 at 10 a.m. at McHoul's Funeral Home.
