A woman found asleep behind the wheel in the middle of the day at a red light in Westchester was reportedly driving with a blood alcohol level more than double the legal limit, police said.
Officers from the Yorktown Police Department responded to a stretch of Bound Brook Lane at approximately 4:35 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, police said. Upon arrival, the officers found a woman passed out in the driver’s seat.
According to police, the officers determined that the driver, Yorktown Heights resident Karen Sokolik was under the influence, and she was taken into custody.
Sokolik, 25, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated for having a blood alcohol content greater than .18 percent, both misdemeanors. She was also cited for multiple vehicle and traffic violations.
Following her processing, Sokolik was released and scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Tuesday, Feb. 11 to respond to the DWI charges.
