Earlier reports of a student injuring a staff member at the Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES School are incorrect, the school said.
"There have been inaccurate reports in the media regarding activity at the Walden Learning Center at Putnam-Northern Westchester BOCES today," said Ellen Lane, communications director at the school located in Yorktown Heights.
According to Lane, an ambulance was called around 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, to transport a student in emotional distress to the hospital.
"At no time was any student or staff member in danger and there were no injuries to students or staff," she added.
The incident was handled in accordance with established protocols for dealing with student emotional dysregulation, she said.
The school’s crisis team responded to assist in helping the student who entered the ambulance willingly, Lane added.
"Our experienced staff provides highly individualized special education services to students with emotional and behavioral regulation difficulties in our Learning Center program," she said.
