Mercedes-Benz Driver Charged In Wrong-Way Taconic Crash In Westchester

A 30-year-old Westchester man is facing multiple charges after a wrong-way, head-on crash on the Taconic State Parkway on Tuesday, Feb. 19.

At approximately 11:33 a.m., state police troopers were dispatched to the area of Exit 8 on the Taconic in New Castle for a personal injury collision due to a wrong-way driver. 

An investigation found Andrew S. Elias of Mount Pleasant operated his 2007 Mercedes-Benz C230 in a northbound direction in the southbound lanes of the parkway and struck a southbound 2015 Honda CRV operated by John J. Maxwell, age 64, of Fishkill, head on.

Elias was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, a Class A misdemeanor, and reckless driving, an unclassified misdemeanor.

Maxwell was taken to Westchester Medical Center for minor injuries.

Elias was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the town of New Castle Court on Friday, Feb. 22.
