New Items for Parents at Bedford School

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – On Wednesday night at the Bedford Road School in Pleasantville, parents of third and fourth grade students had the opportunity to explore the halls of the familiar elementary school for their child as a part of the annual Back to School night. The parents of third and fourth grade students were separated from those in grades k-2, as those parents held their Back to School night two weeks ago. Principal Peggy Galotti said that was done in order to properly accommodate the parent(s) for each child in a close-knit setting."We would never be able to give everybody the opportunity to travel to all the different places with the parents of 632 children," Galotti said. "It just makes it nicer for everyone,"As most of the parents attending Back to School night are already familiar with Bedford Road School with their children passing through each grade, Galotti said she hoped the parents took the opportunity to learn about programs and events going on in the school. The night began with Galotti addressing the parents about the importance of communicating with their children after school in order to improve their education process. Galotti then discussed new programs going on throughout the school, such as the Singapore Math Approach and encouraged parents to ask questions. One change for students that recently entered the third grade is the addition of a science program, taught by Chrissie Moses. Before parents visited their child's classroom, Moses gave them an in-depth presentation on what they can expect from the science and lab curriculum."We want to provide each student with rich hands-on resources related to the world of science," Moses said.Moses said it is very important for students to recognize science in the early elementary stages of their education."There's science everywhere," Moses said. "It's my job to bring that to the students."
