A 29-year-old man is heading to prison for a quarter of a century after pleading guilty to killing his mother.

Westchester County District Attorney announced on Wednesday that Andre Coverdale, 29, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to a felony charge of first-degree manslaughter in March in the stabbing death of his mother, Dawne McCray in Yonkers.

Scarpino noted that Coverdale has no known address.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 16, Coverdale walked up to the security booth of a Schroeder Street in Yonkers, telling an officer that “he had just killed his mother,” Scarpino said. Coverdale then asked the security guard to alert police.

Upon arrival at the scene, police said that Coverdale was waiting at the security guard booth. He proceeded to confess that his mother was inside the apartment complex, and when they entered the residence, they found McCray dead in her bed. The Westchester County Medical Examiner later determined that she died from multiple stab wounds.

Coverdale pleaded guilty to the manslaughter charge on March 15. He has been remanded into the custody of the New York State Department of Corrections.
