This coyote, including a second coyote observed traveling with it, is suspected of multiple biting attacks in Yonkers and the surrounding jurisdictions, including Hastings-on-Hudson, over the past several days, Yonkers Police said.
Anyone who has come into contact with this animal or any aggressive coyote should notify their medical professional. As per the CDC: The rabies virus is transmitted through saliva or brain/nervous system tissue. You can only get rabies by coming in contact with these specific bodily excretions and tissues.
The second coyote has not been located yet and is presumed rabid. Anyone who observes this coyote should call 911.
Residents who encounter any coyote that does not flee from people and or displays aggressive behavior should assume the animal is dangerous and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and call 911.
Residents are being urged to be aware of your surroundings and especially mindful of children and pets.
