DeRienzo, who is the founder and chief executive officer of ASmartNanny.com, is a lifelong resident of Westchester County and a Mount Pleasant resident. She is New York State certified teacher and holds a master's degree in childhood education from Mercy College and a bachelor's degree in psychology from Pace University.
"All of my nannies must be college educated, driving and live in Westchester County," DeRienzo said. "Their love for children -- and patience -- is a must. I do background checks and verify references before sending a potential candidate to meet with a family. Most of my nannies are teachers and nurses by trade."
DeRienzo, a member of the Pleasantville Chamber of Commerce and Professional Women of Westchester, started ASmartNanny.com in February 2013 at age 28.
"At the time I was an unemployed teacher and had found a nanny job with a wonderful family in Hastings-on-Hudson," DeRienzo said. "Shortly after, several friends and family members began asking me to help them find a nanny job as well. I wanted to help people with college degrees find a rewarding career of working with children."
The nanny matchmaker said she currently has a network of about 40-50 nannies and tutors in her network.
"There are 'mannies' (in the business) but I have only encountered two or three in the year and a half that I've been doing this," she said. "Parents want their nanny to be energetic, fun and a driver (always a deal breaker apparently, but all of my nannies are drivers). Speaking a second language is an added bonus as well."
DeRienzo will be meeting and greeting local families this Sunday, August 17 at the first Mount Pleasant Street Fair & Car Show, which is being sponsored by the Hawthorne-Thornwood Chamber of Commerce and the Hawthorne Fire Department.
