MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. -- The UJA-Federation of New York Westchester Community and Volunteer Services and Engage Jewish Service Corps are holding a MLK Day of Service in Mount Pleasant on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday Jan. 18.

The event will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Sally & Anthony Mann Center in Mount Pleasant.

Participate in a community-wide effort to make meals for those in need.

UJA-Federation is joining Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York and Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies in an initiative to tackle hunger across New York City and Westchester. The initiative is called "Feeding Our Neighbors: An Interfaith Response."

This effort is part of Feeding Our Neighbors' goal of collecting and distributing 1 million meals to feed the hungry in the area.

A volunteer service will be followed by a poetry slam, a poetry performance on the topic of hunger and the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., by residents of the Mann Center.

Advance registration is required. Space is limited. There is no charge to participate.

The Sally & Anthony Mann Center is at 500 Linda Ave., Hawthorne. Contact Veronica Landin at 914-761-5100, Ext. 115 or email

The Mann Center, formerly Linden Hill, is a 64-bed residential treatment facility (RTF) for boys and girls ages 12 to 21 with severe psychiatric conditions. The Center is run by the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services, a UJA-Federation beneficiary agency.
