Trapped Rafters Rescued From Fast-Moving Hudson Valley River First responders came to the aid of a pair of rafters from Long Island who were trapped in a river in the Hudson Valley, authorities announced. First responders from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, Wassaic Fire Department, and Town of Amenia EMS were dispatched to a stretch of Ten Mile River at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 18, where there was a report of a man and woman in the middle of the river holding on to a log. Boy, 8, Dies After Boat Carrying Eight Flips Over In Area This story has been updated. An 8-year-old boy drowned after being underwater for some time when a boat carrying seven children and one adult flipped over in Haverstraw Bay. The incident took place around 1:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 18, about 100 feet off of Haverstraw Bay, said Rockland County Sheriff's Chief William Barbera. According to Barbera, the boat flipped over sending all eight occupants into the water. Most clung to the boat until help arrived, but the boy went underwater. Four people were rescued late Saturday night following a 911 call of a water emergency involving Jet Ski watercraft in distress on the Hudson River in the vicinity of Norrie Point Marina in the hamlet of Staatsburgh in Hyde Park. Man On Top Of Sinking Boat Rescued In Hudson All hands were on deck - literally - as first responders rescued a man whose boat capsized in the Hudson River. The Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department received a report of the boater in distress off Croton Point at approximately 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday, leading to a water rescue involving several area first responders.
