Popular Westchester Pub Days Away From Closing Time
It’s going to be last call for one of Westchester’s longest operating pubs. After shutting down its kitchen last week, Tighe’s Tavern on Martine Avenue in White Plains has announced it will be closing its doors on Sunday, Feb. 17 after nearly a century in Westchester. Last call will be at approximately 4 a.m. The popular pub has been operating in the area since 1935, serving a series of regulars in the area cold beer and traditional bar food such as burgers and traditional Irish dishes. Who Said Outdoor Movies Are Extinct? 'Big' Hits Area Big Screen
If you like outdoor movies, actor Tom Hanks and free popcorn, you're in luck. The City of White Plains is celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Hanks' appearance in "Big," by showing the movie outdoors on Court Street between Main Street and Martine Avenue. "Big" was first released 30 years ago. At the moment, city officials have not set a rain date, so are counting on clear skies on Saturday, Sept. 22. ArtsWestchester, White Plains Unveil Colorful Street Mural
White Plains Mayor Tom Roach and ArtsWestchester CEO Janet Langsam joined the community on Monday, May 14 to celebrate the completion of a new street mural on Mamaroneck and Martine avenues. The public art project, created by well-known street artist Wayne “Wane One” Peterkin, commemorates the 20th anniversary of the arts council building. “The public art piece serves as a colorful welcome mat inviting residents and visitors to White Plains and into ArtsWestchester’s gallery, as well as our nine-story building filled with artist studios and creative businesses,” Langsam said.
