Brand-New Mamaroneck Business Offers French Pastries, Products
A brand-new business is bringing a little piece of France to Westchester County. Petite Bretagne hosted its grand opening on Saturday, Sept. 4. The business is a French bakery and café that also offers customers and selection of French groceries and products. The French-American School of New York (FASNY) in Westchester has “marked a milestone” by appointing Francis Gianni as the sixth Head of School. Gianni will succeed Joël Peinado, who left in June. After 24 years, the last seven of which were served as Head of School, Peinado has moved on to become president of International College in Beirut. These Westchester Students Named National Merit Semifinalists
Some of Westchester County’s best and brightest students were among those chosen as semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program, which celebrates academic achievement in high school students. On Wednesday, 16,000 high school seniors were chosen from around the country. Those 16,000 will soon be pared to 7,500 finalists, who will be picked to receive upwards of $31 million in scholarships, which will be announced next spring as they prepare to continue their educations in college. A state judge tossed out a White Plains neighborhood group's lawsuit seeking to block the proposed 640-student French-American School of New York on the former Ridgeway Country Club. Supreme Court Justice Joan Lefkowitz said the Gedney Association failed to prove that the City of White Plains and its Common Council failed to follow legal procedure when they approved the FASNY plan, nor that a covenant on the 129-acre property prohibited construction of an educational facility.
