New Rochelle Officials Drafting New Schools Budget After First Fails After the proposed $272.8 million schools budget was overwhelmingly rejected by voters last week, New Rochelle officials are going back to the drawing board to draft a more community-friendly budget. Last week, voters rejected the district’s initial proposed budget with 3,116 votes against and 1,689 in favor of the proposed $272,804,093 spending plan. As a result, the administration and Board of Education are drafting a new budget, which they will consider adopting for a potential vote at its May 29 hearing. Iona College, New Rochelle Reach Agreement To Drop Litigation, Expand Iona College officials have reached an agreement with the city to drop pending litigation and begin the process of a multi-million dollar expansion of two of its buildings. Officials announced the agreement this week which “when fully executed, will allow for the inward expansion of two campus buildings while addressing neighborhood concerns regarding the campus perimeter, and resolving recent legal disputes.” As part of the scope of the $17.5 million project, Hagan Hall and Spellman Hall will be expanded, updated and upgraded on campus, avoiding any disturbances to nearby neighbors. “The …
