Officials have revealed that two more people were bitten by a rabid fox that was killed in Northern Westchester. In an announcement on Friday, Jan. 19, the Westchester County Department of Health said two more people bitten by the rabid fox, which was killed in Peekskill, came forward and are now under a doctor's care. Dog Bites Child, Leads To Arrest Of Owner In Westchester: Police
A 71-year-old man faces charges after allegedly failing to license his dog that bit a child in Northern Westchester, police said. The arrest stemmed from an incident that happened on Sunday, May 14, when Yorktown Police responded to a report of a dog biting a child within the town. According to the department, the incident involved a dog that resides within Yorktown. Officers soon identified the dog's owner as 71-year-old Yorktown resident Robert Sim, and found that he had failed to license the animal. A town in the region is warning residents to be on the lookout for a rabid coyote after two residents were attacked while walking. The incident took place in Northern Westchester on Thursday, Nov. 17 shortly after 5 p.m. in North Salem on Turkey Hill Road. One person was bitten with a puncture wound on their leg. State wildlife officials believe a miniature horse may have been attacked by a black bear due to the nature of the injuries. A Yonkers family is hoping the public can help them identify a large dog that attacked a 2-year-old King Charles Cavalier, leaving the small dog clinging to life. Three people are receiving rabies shots after being bitten by an aggressive fox in Yorktown that is still at large, according to the Westchester County Department of Health. Due to its aggressive behavior, the fox is believed to be rabid. The health department used robo-calls Monday to notify nearby residents. A member of the New Canaan Police Department was forced to fatally shoot a dog who posed a potential threat to local residents and would not stop attacking a neighbor's canine.
