MAMARONECK, N.Y. – The Rye Neck High School football team did not give up a single point during the regular season and had allowed just seven points in the playoffs.

But in the Section 1 Class C championship game on Sunday, the Woodlands High School Falcons steamrolled the Panthers, 35-0.

“Our boys played hard all year. It was just tough. It was tough treading today,” said head coach Nick Ianello. “I love every one of these boys out here and I’m going to miss them dearly.”

Rye Neck did not face a playoff team during the regular season but still shut out every single opponent on its schedule. And on Sunday, they started off well against Woodlands.

But a sack and fumble near the end of the first quarter led to 15 quick points for the Falcons and the Panthers never recovered.

“That was a big momentum changer there,” Ianello said. “We tried to catch them off guard and throw a little play action pass but it backfired on us.”

Despite the disappointing ending, Ianello had no regrets about the Panther’s 2012 season.

“I feel gifted that God blessed me with these boys for a whole season,” Ianello said.
