Mamaroneck Athlete Wins Con Ed Scholarship

RYE, N.Y. – The 61st annual Consolidated Edison Westchester Scholastic Sports Award program ended Wednesday night with the annual dinner held at the Hilton Rye Town’s Grand Ballroom.

The dinner, which signals the end of the Scholastic Sports Award season, honored the 37 Athletes of the Week from throughout the season. Coaches, athletic directors and other officials chose the athletes based on their achievement on the field, in the classroom and in the community.

Four scholarship winners were chosen, and $25,000 in scholarships were awarded Wednesday night. Rye High School field hockey player Victoria Virtue, Irvington High School basketball player Marley Giddins, Mamaroneck High School track and field star Anima Banks and Yonkers High School baseball player Nicholas DeMarco each won scholarships.

Major League Baseball Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Wolff moderated the dinner and introduced each of the 37 athletes by name and listed their accomplishments.
