MAMARONECK, N.Y. Swimmers from Orienta Beach Club competed at the Westchester County Swim Conference Championships on Monday at Scarsdale Municipal Pool.
Hundreds of swimmers took part in the first day of qualifying for the finals on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Westchester Country Club.
Alex Eid is in his first year as coach at Orienta. The 18-year-old competed in the county championships last year as a swimmer and has already noticed some differences in his new role.
It definitely feels longer, thats for sure, Eid said. But its a great experience getting to watch the people I swam against last year compete this year again and cheering for both the team youre coaching for and your friends.
Orienta has about 50 swimmers in its club and is one of the smaller teams in the county. But several Orienta swimmers qualified for finals on Monday, including 12-year-old Brendan Egan, who swam the freestyle, backstroke and butterfly events.
Egan, a year-round swimmer, has been to the county championships before and has qualified for finals in the past. He was satisfied with his performance Monday and now waits for Thursdays events.
I did pretty good, I guess, today cause I dropped times in (two of) my events, Egan said.
