Briarcliff resident Dr. Scott Mosenthal was officially appointed to the interim position by the Board of Education on Wednesday, Dec. 7.
He will be replacing Dr. Barbara Ferraro who will head the 1,575-student school district at the end of the year when Superintendent Dr. Peter Mustich retires.
Principal Ferraro is also the current assistant superintendent for curriculum. She will be reportedly paid $260,000 a year as superintendent.
Mosenthal was a principal for 15 years in the Irvington Union Free School District, where he also taught English for more than two decades at the middle school and high school levels. He retired as principal in 2013.
As chairman of Irvington’s English Department, he was responsible for classroom observation and teacher evaluation, curriculum development, staff development, student discipline and building management.
Mosenthal also coached varsity indoor track, junior varsity basketball and football in Irvington.
He will take over as interim principal at Rye Neck High School on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Ferraro said Thursday that she was pleased to have Mosenthal as her successor, citing his “wealth of experience.
She also praised Mosenthal’s “strong curriculum background, passion for teaching and learning and commitment to working with high school students.”
These qualities, she added, made him the “perfect candidate” for the principal’s job.
