Margaret “Mimi” Zimmer performed Shakespeare, participated in the Original Science Research program and welcomed Chinese exchange students to Mamaroneck High School.
Her last accolade was being named valedictorian for the class of 2014, which graduated June 26.
During her high school years, Zimmer's schedule was filled with AP classes and extracurricular activities. She played in the New York All-State Band in December 2013, and described her time in the music program at MHS as “amazing.”
Zimmer has also been a member of the Student Council since she was a freshman and has competed with the academic team against other Westchester districts in Quiz Bowls.
Through the Original Science Research (OSR) program she discovered what elements of musical structure have the most impact on listeners’ memory for musical key, and found a mentor from New York University’s Steinhardt School of Music.
The National Merit Scholarship finalist is working at the Hommocks Co-Op Camp this summer as one of the counselors in the Maker Corps program.
Zimmer said she has been most affected by the advice she was once given to “just take a step back and breathe.”
In the fall, she will attend Columbia University, where she said she will likely study math.
