MAMARONECK, N.Y.— The Mamaroneck Mayor and members of the board of trustees argued Monday night about how the village should proceed over a proposed Town of Rye dissolution findings report.
Trustee Leon Potok and Mayor Norman Rosenblum disagreed about the report, which will be discussed at an open meeting Jan. 10.
“I think we need to have all the numbers be complete before we take any other action on this. We need to understand the impact for residents to the Village of Mamaroneck,” Potok said.
The Mayor disagreed with Potok, saying that his call to reevaluate the study was a “delaying tactic.”
“Our job is to set policy,” Rosenblum said. “Our mandate as elected officials is to do what we think is in the best interest of our constituents, not constantly delay. To do so is a disservice to the village and this Board.”
Rosenblum and Potok argued again later over changing the Board of Trustees meeting procedures, with Potok saying the proposed changes would help the Board run more smoothly, while Rosenblum argued that the changes would limit any mayoral power.
“I don’t believe that the proposed procedures are in the best interest of this Board, and I believe that they are meant to cut the legs out of the office of the Mayor,” Rosenblum said. “This is nothing more than a power play. Absolutely nothing more than a power play.”
